Video Search Engine Truveo Acquired by AOL
Jeff Clavier, French VC working and living in Palo Alto, Silicon Valley, announced on his blog in this note "Search Consolidation Act #1: Truveo goes to AOL" that the video search engine Truveo has been acquired by AOL! Rumours (Staci at Paidcontent.org) are announcing a deal of $ 50M!
It is a very good deal for the team Dr. Timothy Tuttle and Dr. Adam Beguelin and for the early angel investors, one of them being Jeff, as Truveo was launched in September 2005 after a work of 18 months to build the core technology of Truveo.
Anyway, I tried a small test for fun and run the following query "madonna hung up" (Hung Up is the name of the latest hit from Madonna) on Pooxi.com and Truveo, here are the results :
Results from Pooxi.com: 2 relevant results returned, both of them are linking to working videos.
Results from Truveo: 7 relevant results returned, some of the links are not linking to working videos (at least on the firefox browser I used for this test)
Not bad for the small French player Pooxi.com that makes me think that the difference between video guide and video search engine is not so evident...
Is it better to get all the content or just the relevant one?
You can read the press release "AOL ACQUIRES TRUVEO"
PS: I was surprised that a listed company like AOL is not revealing the amount of the deal?
